Abdelnour / Koch

Intimities in der Rathausbühne Willisau!

Christine Abdelnour lives in France and is of Lebanese origin. After discovering improvised music for herself, she began studying and experimenting with sound on the alto saxophone as a self-taught musician. Abdelnour has developed a unique personal language, producing sounds on her acoustic instrument that approach those of electroacoustic music. She views sound as a malleable material, rich in concrete textures that combine breath, silence and countless acoustic distortions. In addition to collaborations with Andy Moor, Magda Mayas, Pascal Battus, Andrea Neumann, Bonnie Jones, Raymond Strid, Sven-Ake Johansson, Chris Corsano and Mazen Kerbaj, she has also worked with artists from the visual arts, dance and literature.

After abandoning a classical career as an orchestral musician, Hans Koch made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most innovative improvisers on woodwind instruments. Since the 1980s, he has worked with many renowned artists, including Cecil Taylor and Fred Frith. As a composer, Koch has shaped from the outset the unique sound of the internationally acclaimed “Koch-Schütz-Studer” trio and has composed music for radio plays and films. Since the 1990s, he has been expanding the sounds of his instruments with electronics, samplings and computers. As a woodwind player, he has developed a distinctive style that makes him one of the most original musicians in today’s music scene.
