Der Verboten
The music of “Der Verboten” (with a deliberate linguistic error in German, in the good Dadaist sense) evolves at the crossroads of improvised music, contemporary jazz and experimental acoustic music. The four musicians developed a highly differentiated sound language in the course of their collaboration. Although working in a conceptual and highly structured way, the quartet’s primary focus is on the art of improvisation so that Der Verboten’s music is constantly renewed and experienced in real time. The emphasis is on exploring collective timbres and unique structures. More specifically, the ensemble generates dense textures in which each instrument coexists and functions as part of the whole. The four musicians create highly homogeneous sound structures that constantly change without ever losing sight or hearing of each other. The quartet’s music offers a challenging journey that engages the listener’s sonic imagination and provides a poetic experience in the art of real-time improvisation.
