Martina Berther and Philipp Schlotter belong to the most versatile musicians and composers on the Swiss music scene. They are active in pop and jazz music, play in bands, explore the boundaries of sound art and compose film scores. Their first joint album, “Matt”, will be released in September on the Lucerne label Hallow Ground and will be presented live for the first time at the Jazz Festival Willisau. The duo uses the organ, synthesisers and electric bass in an experimental approach that oscillates between composition and free improvisation. The conceptual minimalism of the two Zurich-based artists leaves plenty of room for their ideas to flourish. This results in complex, aesthetic and emotional sound worlds full of spontaneity, intimacy and vitality.
