“Gysenstein” is four days secluded from the outside world and eight improvisations recorded live. The fragility and spontaneity of the compositions reflect the peaceful yet harsh winter environment on the edge of the Swiss Alps. Philipp Schlotter’s acoustic piano, prepared with the most diverse objects and alienated by effect devices, oscillates between club sounds, shimmering surfaces and obstinate patterns. These memories of the 1990s, interwoven with Fred Bürki’s electronic and organic beats, give rise to a contemporary sound aesthetic. To further expand their universe, the musicians invited Basel singer Anna Aaron to join them on seven of the eight tracks. The recordings are adorned with ethereal voices, sometimes unstructured and sometimes chanted. The album conveys the floating sensation of a timeline stretching out as you walk across shifting ground.
